Advisory Report from BuRO on Risks in the Potato Production Chain
The Office for Risk Assessment & Research (BuRO) advises the Inspector General of the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority on the risks to public health and plant health that occur in the potato production chain. BuRO also briefly mentions other risks to nature and the environment.
Risks to human health mainly involve initiating or supporting research into the food safety risks of substances produced by heating potato products, and into the toxicity of calystegines, a group of plant toxins.
Plant health risks involve, for example, the rotation time of potato crops, infections with the bacterium Ralstonia solanacearum, and the processing of soil tare.
