NVWA will no longer issue export certificates for tree logs treated with Sulfuryl fluoride as of January 1, 2025

As of 1 January 2025, the Netherlands will stop issuing phytosanitary export certificates for the export of tree logs (all plant genera) that have been fumigated with sulfuryl fluoride (SF). This measure is necessary because the Netherlands cannot guarantee that these tree logs are free of Ips typographus and other quarantine organisms and therefore cannot comply with Article 100 of Regulation (EU) 2016/2031.

The proposed treatment with SF is not effective  because the maximum permitted dosage of Sulfuryl fluoride in the Netherlands appears to be insufficient to kill insects that can occur in wood.
